“Never trust anyone who has not brought a book with them.”
― Lemony Snicket, Horseradish
I love books! And if you are checking out my site, chances are that you love reading too! Although I love reading all types of books, this site is mainly dedicated to fiction, predominately mystery, historical drama and adventure/espionage. Certainly I wish to include a variety for all, though for the most part I shall leave the non-fiction to those more knowledgeable about the topics that they cover.
Why do I focus on fiction? There is more to the human experience than the knowledge that is contained in non-fiction. Fiction gives us all a chance to experience the world through someone else's eyes in a way that casts us right into the framework of another life. Yes, the stories in fiction novels are 'not true' and yet the characters in them are drawn from the same set of human emotions, faults, frailties and strengths that you and I share.
We can change how we feel simply by reading a comedy when we are sad, or find strength in our difficulties by following characters who share similar struggles. We can learn about other cultures and time periods and be able to resonate with the characters and imagine how we might feel and react if we had lived in that time or in that place. We can learn tolerance for others by seeing that the ups and downs of life are experienced by all. And above all, at least for me, reading is a singular activity that I can do just for myself and let the cares of this crazy world take care of themselves for a moment or two while I regain my peace and centered-ness.
I hope you enjoy my site and my book commentaries and announcements in the Book a Day Blog! I look forward to hearing your thoughts as well! Happy Reading!
